Medicinal Use: St. John's Wort contains hypericin that inhibits monoamine oxidase, a bodily chemical associated with depression. It appears that hypericin does not act alone. Like many herbal medicines, St. John's Wort relies on the complex interplay of many constituents for its antidepressant actions. Patients suffering from depression received relief, increased appetite, more interest in life, greater self-esteem and restoration of normal sleeping patterns.
St.John's Wort Extract is also used to cure birds flu by now in Chin
Hypericum perforatum is a native British upright perennial, reaching a height of up to 90 cm. It grows throughout Britain and Europe and well into Asia and prefers open, sunny situations and dry calcareous soils. The smooth stem branches in its upper part, bearing opposite, sessile, oblong leaves which exhibit numerous translucent oil glands, as well as a few dark ones on the underside. The bright yellow five-petaled flowers, which are borne in a terminal corymb, have over fifty stamens, fused in the lower part into three bundles. The long lanceolate petals and shorter sepals are marked with dark dots. The fruit is a capsule which opens by three valves. A herbaceous perennial growing freely wild to a height of 1 to 3 feet in uncultivated ground, woods, hedges, roadsides, and meadows; short, decumbent, barren shoots and erect stems branching in upper part, glabrous; leaves pale green, sessile, oblong, with pellucid dots or oil glands which may be seen on holding leaf to light. Flowers bright cheery yellow in terminal corymb. Calyx and corolla marked with black dots and lines; sepals and petals five in number; ovary pear-shaped with three long styles.
Used in all pulmonary complaints, bladder troubles, in suppression of urine, dysentery, worms, diarrhoea, hysteria and nervous depression, haemoptysis and other haemorrhages and jaundice. For children troubled with incontinence of urine at night, an infusion or tea given before retiring will be found effectual; it is also useful in pulmonary consumption, chronic catarrh of the lungs, bowels or urinary passages. Externally for fomentations to dispel hard tumours, caked breasts, ecchymosis, etc.

The preparation method of the extract of Hypericum perforatum includes the following steps: firstly, dry forsythia and crushed into powder of Hypericum perforatum, and then weigh the enzyme to dissolve the enzyme in the warm water, activate the enzyme solution into the water bath, mix the powder of Hypericum perforatum with water, , Cooling, adjusting pH with hydrochloric acid, shaking, water bath heating, adding the activation of the enzyme solution, mixing, enzymolysis, filtration, discard the filtrate, the enzyme powder, add ethanol reflux extraction, filtration, combined filtrate , Concentrating under reduced pressure, recovering ethanol and drying to obtain hypericum perforatum extract. The invention improves the hypericin content in the extract, and the filtrate discarded after enzymolysis takes away a large amount of water-soluble impurities, so that the extract does not Re-hygroscopic, the use of biological methods safe and pollution-free, simple operation, easy to industrial applications
Q:Hypericum perforatum extract and hypericin What is the difference?
A: Hypericum perforatum extract is a crude extract of Hypericum perforatum, hypericin is Hypericum perforatum in an effective component. Hypericum perforatum extract generally contains hypericin 0.3% 0.5% and so on. Hypericin is known as the monomer composition reached 98%, the price is also high amazing.
Q: Hypericum perforatum effective for depression, there are no side effects
A: Hypericum perforatum extract of the active ingredient hypericin can treat patients with moderate depression, and very few adverse side effects, antitussive, analgesic, hepatoprotective effect. Hypericin inhibits central nervous system and sedation, acts as a central nervous system inhibitor and antidepressant
